Yoga for Teens
Parent Q&A
A friend of mine's high schooler took yoga at a local community college for her high school PE credit. It was a positive solution for them.
Hello,
my daughter’s high school also gives mainly organized competitive sports options. I pushed and got her permission to take yoga at an outside studio as an option. I hope these schools can open up the possibilities of healthy movement for non sporty kids.
Hi,
Can she take a yoga class? Our school has yoga and it is a pe credit. Also, be very sure to get approval for the outside pe in writing that it will count towards her pe credit.
Good Luck!

Yoga or pilates class for teens?
May 2011
Hi: I'm looking for a yoga and/or pilates class for my 13 year old daughter. She would prefer to be in a class with other teens. I would appreciate recommendations for summer classes/camps or ongoing afternoon/evening classes (which accommodate teens) in Oakland or Berkeley, but Alameda or Lafayette areas would also be good. Thanks so much. Charlotte
Yoga Kula on Virginia and Shattuck has plans to start a teen class. I believe the time will be 4 on Tuesdays - so check the website YogaKula.com! Abby E.
My daughter took Pilates with Rosie Liebe, massage practitioner and Pilates instructor, in Berkeley and loved the experience. I was so happy that my daughter made a connection with a healthy woman who helped identify her strengths and motivated her to stay strong. Rosie gives classes too, but I don't know if she has classes (yet) for only teens. The Body Praxis 510.828.3441 Katherine
Beginning yoga for teenage girl?
Aug 2010
Can anyone recommend a beginning/not-too-intense yoga class for a teenage girl. preferably in North Berkeley? It doesn't have to be a class for teenagers, just one that would accept a sixteen-year-old. m.
Hi! The Berkeley YMCA has a teen membership for teens 14-18. Many of our teens enjoy a variety of the adult fitness classes we have to offer, including yoga. We can easily provide recommendations for first classes to try, etc. If you would like more information, please contact Paul Milsap at pmilsap [at] baymca.org or 665-3234. Eden
Jessie Holland teaches yoga and does accept teens. In fact, she has a yoga class that's about to start for beginners. Although I haven't taken her class, friends of mine have. They say she's really good, and they've enjoyed the class. She teaches at a few studios-Berkeley & Oakland. I'm not sure of the location for the beginning class that will be starting later in September. Her number is 510- 926-0577 or e-mail her at HollandJessica [at] Yahoo.com. RMI
I would like to recommend Carrie Adams and the Yoga Kula on Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley. Carrie is a great, very supportive and patient teacher. My 16 year old daughter has taken classes with her and been very happy. She teaches a 6 pm beginning class on Monday nights. Marel
