Experience conceiving with a donated egg?
Hi fellow parents, I wondered if anyone in this bright and beautiful community has experience growing their family through egg donation. I have a very close friend who has been on a long journey trying to conceive a child. For various reasons she is now looking into the possibility of conceiving with a donated egg. Would anyone feel comfortable connecting with her to share your story? She is looking to know more about the experience of an actual family rather than simply what the IVF clinics disclose. This is not in any way a post about trying to find an egg donor or any financial transaction, merely a request for connection and sharing.
Thank you!

Hi there,
after a very long period of infertility and unsuccessful IVF we used a donor egg to conceive our daughter who is now two. I’m very open about it and happy to chat with people considering it. I spoke with another friend who was considering it and answered questions and she now has a one year old conceived with an egg donor (used the same clinic and doctor). After a long hard road trying to get pregnant this was like a miracle to me. I had a great pregnancy (COVID pandemic aside) And my daughter is amazing.
Hi there, I don't have experience myself but I'm in a Slack group of women who have had various fertility challenges and she might benefit from connecting there since there are women who have used donor eggs. Let me know if of interest and I can send her an invite.
This isn’t the exact response you’re looking for - just words of support. And btw I am sure your friend would find plenty of online groups, like on Facebook, easily. This is no longer uncommon.
We have a good friend who conceived using her partners sperm and a donor egg. The process to get pregnant was taxing, but the pregnancy was easy. Their beautiful son is now 16. No health issues, no bonding issues, no stress that I’ve ever heard of for mom, and she’s a very open person. Her son is happy, successful, well adjusted and no one has any weird feelings. He looks just like his dad and has so many expressions and behaviors from his mom. If you didn’t want to share that backstory, no one would ever know.
Hi - we had our 13 yo son via egg donation. My husband’s sperm was used to create several embryos and after 2 rounds of IVF I carried our son during a full term pregnancy at age 46. I did go through a bit of emotional searching during our whole infertility journey and would be happy to share my experience with your friend. Stephanie
Hello, we also struggled with infertility issues and finally went through UCSF for an egg donor. The donor process is still filled with uncertainty, but my actual pregnancy was easy. My son is in elementary school, healthy and thriving. He is a source of daily joy. I absolutely feel he is my son, and I feel eternal gratitude to our egg donor for making our family possible. One consideration is when/if to tell the child. The counselor advised being open. I keep waiting for my son to ask birds/bees questions so we can share that information with him in the context of all the different ways families are created. I wish your friend the best on her journey.
