Affordable trip to Alaska
Hey there, my family of 3 is planning a trip to Cordova, a small fishing village in Alaska, for 6 days. Our budget is very limited so we can't afford to pay 700 dolares each person for the flight. Any ideas about other ways to get there, that are cheaper and won't take us more than 2 days on the way? Thanks!

If you have good credit, and regularly pay your bills, there are ways to use credit cards to get very low cost flights. I've booked a trip to Peru (flight $200 for 2), Mexico ($86 per person), and Madrid ($160 for two) in the last 2 years using these methods. I took this free online "class" for an introduction to this approach: http://www.travelmiles101.com/ My suggestion would be to ignore the parts about "creating spend" and choose cards that would transfer to points to the airline you need (probably Alaska).
The fact is - Alaska is really freaking big and towns like Cordova are hard to get to. I think your best bet would be just getting a flight. Looks like Alaska Air can get you there for under $700 round trip. You could investigate taking the ferry http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/?_ga=1.154397681.854572145.1485383824 or flying into Anchorage and booking a flight with one of the local air companies http://www.flyalaska.com/directoryp.html - but that would likely take longer
Have fun!
As someone who has been to Alaska every which way and many times I can tell you, 6 days is not a lot of time to get there quickly on a short budget.
The drive is magnificent, but you need a good week each way.
Ferry is one way and I'm not sure of the prices....You can get a ferry from Seattle (have to get to Seattle) and that would take probably 2 days.
It's been a while since I"ve taken the ferry. It's definitely the least expensive way to go...you can take your car on the ferry if you have reservations.
Maybe this trip is best to save for when you have more time to get there....if you drive you can camp on the way, bring your own food, enjoy the magnificence of
Canada and SE Alaska.
Alaska Airlines often has good sales...I just got a RT trip ticket to Fairbanks for $600.00 (I know, not cheap, but better then the $800.00 I paid last year).
Wishing you a great trip whatever you decide.
