And Sew We Grow

I can't recommend this class more highly. Meliss is such a warm, welcoming person and an excellent teacher. My daughter comes home with the most incredible finished projects! She absolutely loves the class and I feel like she is learning a lot of great skills. My daughter is very creative and occasionally been disappointed by classes or camps that are too prescriptive. This is never the case with Meliss. Meliss supports her in doing the projects she is inspired to do and my daughter loves everything she has made. I think she would go to sewing class every day if she could! We also had my daughter's 9th birthday with Meliss and all the kids loved it. They sewed these adorable little chicken bean bags and we had lunch and cake in Meliss's super charming back yard.  

My daughter has been taking sewing from Meliss at And Sew We Grow for 3 years, and it's still the highlight of her week. We have taken both weekly classes and summer camps — all wonderful! Meliss is incredibly patient, encouraging, and inspiring. This isn't a cookie-cutter project class that forces all kids to do the same project and with the same parameters. Meliss allows each child to learn and grow their skills at their own pace, and she lets their interests and inspiration guide the projects. Each child is often working on different independent projects that cater to their individual stage of learning, and I enjoy seeing each unique project that emerges from all the kids. I'm so grateful for Meliss' gentle leadership, which gives my daughter the autonomy and confidence to continue growing and evolving as a sewer — confidence that extends well beyond sewing class into my daughter's other creative pursuits.

My child and I absolutely love Meliss and her sewing classes! Meliss is warm, patient, and truly inspirational. She’s a wonderful mentor who has a special talent for connecting with kids. In class, they work on all kinds of fun and creative projects, tailored to each child’s skills and interests. From small pouches and stuffed animals to clothes and even big quilts, there’s always something exciting to create. My child has had an amazing time at several of Meliss's summer camps and has been attending her weekly classes ever since they began. It’s such a joy to see how proud my child is of their creations. We couldn’t recommend her classes and camps more highly!

We've loved taking sewing classes with Meliss for the past couple of years! My crafty daughter has created beautiful projects, from a quilt for our cat to a fashionable poncho. Meliss starts with fun, skill-appropriate projects and gives kids the freedom to choose their own as they progress. She tailors her guidance to each child’s abilities and offers great advice. The afterschool and summer camps have been a blast, and we're excited for what’s next. Meliss is a wonderfully patient teacher, with so many creative ideas and makes class so fun. I highly recommend Meliss to any parent looking to nurture their child’s creativity and sewing skills!

My daughter and her friend have been taking sewing classes with Meliss for a couple of years now.  My daughter had never sewn on a sewing machine before.  But now she is making bags, ponchos, pants, shirts - all with proper construction techniques.  I am thrilled that she is learning useful life skills and having fun!  She also enjoyed going to the Harry Potter themed summer camp at And Sew We Grow.  Meliss is a wonderful and patient teacher, and my daughter adores her.  Meliss even came out to support the girls at our school craft fair where they sold handmade purses and pencil pouches.  We love Meliss and her well run program.  I highly recommend her classes and camps!    

And Sew We Grow is an amazing place for kids to learn how to sew or practice skills they already have.  Meliss is a very experienced sewist, has high quality equipment, and has a ton of patience and humor to make all the learning fun!  She has a wide variety of options for projects and is able to help learners with a range of skills, all at the same time.  Both of my kids have been in classes led by Meliss, and have learned a lot and been boosted up by her genuine interest in what they want to learn and what they already know.  My older child wears pants she made with Meliss in public... where people can see her.  They are gorgeous and she's happy to have made them herself. I think Meliss is a great teacher and mentor, very lucky we found her.
