Chiropractors at Kaiser

  • I'm looking for a chiropractor who can help with a specific problem. A chiropractor in the Kaiser ASH program would be great.

The issue is nerve discomfort in my lower back and especially rear end when I'm sitting. It's not sciatica, but more diffuse. I had this years ago and a chiropractor said the issue was tight muscles irritating the nerves. She did a great job relieving the problem; unfortunately she had since retired.

    Thanks!

I have been seeing Kevin Wong (in the ASH network) since my chiropractor retired. He's very good.

What I will also say is that what really seems to have shifted things is also seeing a massage therapist. The issue I had was definitely brought on by very tight muscles, and the work I had done on that helped tremendously, and in fact I think it was the key. If you think it's tightness, then I'd suggest looking into massage. I've recently learned that Kaiser has a program called "Choose Healthy" that allows for some discount on massage therapy (I haven't looked into it yet), so perhaps that's something to investigate. (The person I've been seeing is not cheap, but WOW is she good!! Kei Yumoto. keiyumoto@gmailcom)

    Hi Kate.

    I would recommend Robert Townsend.

He works magic and takes Kaiser ins.

Let him know Vince sent ya!

Elizabeth Welch at Sunflower Chiropractic is very skilled! She’s helped me with low back and neck pain much better than other chiropractors I’ve seen before.

Ward Chiropractic in San Leandro. Helpful, professional and takes Kaiser insurance.

  • Hi All,

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and hoping to see a chiropractor for some prenatal care for various aches and pains (namely, "pelvic girdle pain").  I've found just a couple of practitioners in the area that specialize in prenatal care, but they are all really over my price range for out of pocket (not to mention hard to get an appointment).  I'm wondering if anyone has experience using the chiropractors in Kaiser's network (ASHLink) and specifically if anyone can recommend someone in the network that is experienced working with pregnant women?  Might be a long shot, but I thought I would float the question out there.

I'd also be open to or grateful for suggestions of the same for prenatal acupuncture care.  We are located in Albany, so somewhere in or around Berkeley would be ideal, but I'm will to travel within a reasonable distance in the East Bay.

    Thank you!

I was told by my Kaiser OB that Kaiser only covers chiropractic care if you've been complaining of pain for 6+ months (which doesn't seem that helpful for pregnant women). I ended up going out of network, but felt great improvement after just 2 sessions so wasn't too much financial burden and her prices seemed pretty reasonable. I'd highly recommend Dr Ameneh (https://www.claremontfamilychiro.com/). She specializes in prenatal and was wonderful.

I've been seeing Dr. Verma at Oakbay Chiropractic for years, including throughout my pregnancy. He's got 3 kids of his own (one about 6 months old) and was knowledgeable about a pregnant woman's body. He takes my Kaiser insurance, and he practices Active Release Therapy (soft tissue work).

I used Diana Anfang in Berkeley during my pregnancy and she was great. Takes Kaiser too!

Do you have supplemental medical through your work?  That really helps.  I had Kaiser insurance, but also supplemental medical that covered chiropractic as KP technically does not cover it.  This allowed me to see Dr. Ariel at Flow Chiropractic in Berkeley who is a specialist in prenatal chiro care.  My supplemental paid 80% after the $100 deductible which made each session like $14 which to me was very reasonable.  She also offers payment packages that allow you to buy a block of care fairly affordably if that's an option for you.

    •  Hello,

I am not sure if they take kaiser pay but I would highly recommend Peter https://m.yelp.com/biz_redir?link_source=yelp_app&s=8c994b8eb614f6e05c15bdcc452cd2057de495d4f2442b091c1a3320a2b63111&src_bizid=fUpSnDHe14eciVjMsVHuEQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.leopoldchiropractic.com&website_link_type=website for chiropractic care. He is amazing and very knowledgeable. He approaches chiropractic care from a different angle than most chiropractors. He really addresses the underlying issues rather than a quick fix. I had hip issues and the main problem was the way I was walking was causing weakness in my ankle which caused hip issues. He also always calls to check up on you. I am sure he can work something out with you if he doesn’t take your plan

For acupuncture Camille from Honeycomb acupuncture is top notch

fixed me many times with many issues

    check her out

I saw Brian Barlay (www.BrianBarlay.com) in Temescal when I had Kaiser. At the time he was on the Kaiser "list" and I was successful in getting a referral for back pain -- apparently Kaiser is stingy with the chiro referrals. I don't know if Brian is still on their list but I saw him all though my first pregnancy and he was very helpful.

If you want to explore paying out of pocket -- I agree with another poster that it might only take a session or two -- then the best chiropractor I've ever seen is Robert Zeiger on Telegraph in Berkeley. He's kind of a magician but I don't think he takes any insurance.

Hi again, I am the person who recommended Brian Barlay and Robert Zeiger. Just to clarify: these two are acupuncturists NOT chiropractors. Please ignore my reference to chiropractors.

I can't speak to Kaiser coverage but I paid out of pocket when covered by Anthem to go see Kenda at Awaken Chiropractic on Grand Ave.  It was the only thing that helped with the significant pelvic girdle pain I was experiencing (specifically: pubic symphasis dysfunction) from pregnancy. Kenda is amazing and she is worth paying out of pocket, and waiting the month plus for the first appointment. Awaken Chiropractic focuses on family care. Pregnant women, and then children and families once the baby is born.  At first I didn't want to wait so long to see someone, so I tried seeing another prenatal chiropractor who had more appointments available -  but discontinued that once I started with Kenda because she made a noticeable difference in the problem.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the thoughtful and helpful responses!

  • Do you have a chiropractor that you used during pregnancy that you love and happens to be covered by Kaiser insurance? Looks like they need to be in the American Specialty Health (ASH) network to be covered by Kaiser.  Berkeley/Oakland/Albany/El Cerrito area preferred.  All of the great chiropractors I've been recommended are unfortunately not covered.

Yes! Dr. Verma at Oakbay Chiropractic is wonderful. He takes Kaiser (ASH).

While I was pregnant I saw Dr. Renee Bartlett at Lotus Chiro in Berkelye.- drrenee [at] lotusfamilychiro.com

I used my insurance BCBS - PPO. Might want to check with her, but she takes a variety of insurances I belive.

    Good luck!

Dyanna Anfang on Channing Way in Berkeley accepts ASH insurance. She's an amazing chiropractor -- I saw her during two pregnancies and still get regular adjustments. I've had chronic back pain for years and she helped me get through my pregnancy and helped post-baby as you get more aches from lifting the baby, etc.

I've been having good results during my third trimester with Dimond Chiropractic in Oakland.

I saw Dr. Laurie Wonnell at Piedmont Chiropractic (http://www.piedmontchiropractic.com/) and she was great! You can also search chiropractors and acupuncturists that are covered by the ASH network at this link: https://www.ashlink.com/ASH/public/applications/providersearch/default….

    Goodluck!

Dimond Chiropratic near the fruitvale exit. I think you need a referral from your doc, but then you are covered. Carrie was awesome during my pregnancy and I still see her.

As a Kaiser patient myself, I looked in to American Specialty Health just last week, coincidentally. What I learned in talking to the chiropractor and acupuncturist whom I've worked with for years, is that many in their profession (including themselves) refuse to accept patients under the A.S.H. plan. This is because A.S.H. requires pages and pages of paperwork from the clinicians, and in exchange pays them $40 per hour instead of $100 (at least for acupuncture). So it's not feasible for most clinicians to be part of the A.S.H. plan. That said, if you are willing to travel to the west end of Alameda, I do know that Sophie Blanchard is a chiropractor that takes A.S.H. She is very good, but you may have to wait an hour or more to see her (as an A.S.H. patient), even if you have an appointment. Good luck!

  • Seeking Kaiser chiropractor

    Apr 14, 2017

My wife has some neck issues and would very much appreciate recommendations for a very good chiropractor at either the Kaiser Oakland Or Richmond facility. Walnut Creek office a possibility as well. Many thanks.

Kaiser doesn't have any chiropractors within their network. If you're interested in a referral to one, start with the primary care doctor. You can also try to find an osteopath as there are some who are part of the Kaiser system. www.kp.org/mydoctor to search.

Looking for a chiropractor recommendation preferably in Alameda (or close by) that takes Kaiser. My partner moved from Vacaville to Alameda and paid $15 per visit at her old chiropractor in Vacalville who took Kaiser. My partner is paying a lot more now (welcome to the Bay Area) so we're hoping to find another Kaiser associated doctor. Thanks. Hoping to Save

Try Dr. Daniel Rixen, DC in El Sobrante. His phone number is 510-222-6206. If he is too far, you can also call ASH Network at 1-800-678-9133 and they will be able to give you a list of Chiropractors in your area that accept Kaiser. (I work for Dr. Rixen and I can tell you he is a good Doc.) Jennifer

Dr. Amor Adams in Oakland does wonders and accepts Kaiser. I highly recommend her and everyone I have referred to her loves her. In fact, she's so skilled that she was selected to be a team USA doctor at the 2008 olympics. She helped a stubborn neck problem of mine and my only regret was waiting as long as I did to see her. Her contact info is: 431 30th St Ste 2 (between Mcclure St & Summit St) Oakland, CA 94609 (510) 834-2225
