House Cleaner - typical rate and low much time?
Hi:
I'm looking for a house cleaner. We had a house cleaner who was great in terms of cleaning, but she worked too quickly and her team regularly broke valuable items, and then denied breaking them, or failed to disclose. We just had a new house cleaner come to our home a few weeks ago, but she only stayed for two hours, which didn't seem like enough time to clean our home, and did not do a very good job, and I think she overcharged us.
I'm curious what a typical hourly rate is for a housecleaner, how long we can expect the person (or team) to stay, and for recommendations. We have a 4 bed-3 1/2 bath in Oakland, two messy teenagers and an infant. We'd like to hire someone in the near term. Would appreciate any guidance people can provide.
Thanks!

We're currently paying a flat $150 for a 2 BR/2BA clean every 2 weeks, though I know she charges more to new clients. ~$30-35 an hour per cleaner for weekly cleaning is about as cheap as you'll find for good cleaners around here, last I looked; I suspect prices have since gone up due to COVID. Some cleaners can and do charge more. Depending on how messy your teens are, how many stairs you have, and whether you're having the cleaner tidy as well as clean, run laundry, wash dishes, etc. I'd expect your house would take 4-6 people-hours on a weekly basis.
Hi!
We have a wonderful house cleaner named Jennifer for our 2 bedroom/1 bath. Her team takes about 2 - 2.5 hours to clean our home (she has 2-3 people total in her team) and charges us $100 per cleaning session. Both my husband and I think she does a WONDERFUL job, very thorough. They even clean our shower curtains when they get the pink stuff on the bottoms.
I would be happy to refer you, if you're interested. She's looking to take on a few clients. Feel free to respond to this message, and I can send you her phone number.
Our housecleaner charges $160 to come every other week. She came by and gave us an estimate based on house size. She spends 3-4 hours by herself or about 2 hours when she brings her niece with her. She has availability, message me if you want her contact info.
We pay $200 per week – big house and she’s been with us a long time.
In normal times, I pay $100 for two people to come and they stay about two hours, which is plenty of time for my house. Since March, I've paid them $150 because I'm able to (including when surging COVID means I ask them not to come).
I just got a new house cleaner because my old was was getting more and more cursory. We have a 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath Craftsman in Rockridge with lots of nooks and crannies that get dusty. She is here from about 9 am until maybe 2 pm and charges $160, which I think is a bargain. I will happily give you her name if you are interested. She does a super thorough job and I'm so happy we switched.
I have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath in Oakland and our cleaner regularly takes 3.5 hrs. We pay her $130 plus tip.
We pay $220 for a 3,300 sq ft house (4 bed, 3 bath). Two cleaners spend 5-6 hours there. I previously was paying $250 and two cleaners spent 2-3 hours and it never felt clean, hence why I got a new cleaner.
We pay $160 for our housecleaner, who typically brings at least 1 other person. If it's just her, she spends 3.5+ hours, if it's with 1-2 other people, they are usually done in 2 hours. They wear masks when they come inside, and we open all our windows as well as move around to different rooms (or go outside the house) to avoid being in the same areas as them. We have a 4B/3B two-level home, roughly 2,600 SQF (?).
