Dropping the Morning Feeding
Archived Q&A and Reviews
I am in the process of weaning my 14 month old daughter and am down to 2 nurses a day--before bed and first thing in the morning. I'm comfortable with phasing out the night nurse, but would love some ideas on the early AM one. She wakes up between 5:30 and 6 crying, and we bring her in bed with us. She nurses and cuddles and usually falls back to sleep until around 7:30. She is very active and won't cuddle without nursing. Any suggestions on how to change this pattern without all of us having to start our day at 5:30?? Nancy
I am wondering why you are finding it necessary to wean your child from the early morning nursing at 14 months. I realize the 5:30 wakeup call disturbs your sleep, but since you are able to go back to sleep for a couple of hours afterwards, this doesn't sound like a big problem. Although children this age can be weaned if circumstances warrant it, nursing once or twice a day is appropriate and healthy for both mother and child. Louise
