Hi, I live in Montclair and am looking for a new stylist in the village. I was wondering whether anyone had tried Rising Phoenix Salon and Day Spa. Any recommendations for color & a great cut? Thanks! anon
I had a great stylist/colorist at Phoenix but she has moved a block away to Natural Expressions on LaSalle. I initially went to Phoenix because she came so highly recommended. Her name is Z Kennedy. She's cut my hair twice and just recently I had highlights done with her and am more than pleased anonymous
I would NOT recommend Phoenix Rising. I got a pedicure there and developed a horribly aggressive fungus on one of my nails!! I knew something was not right at the time and I should've said something. They use these rinky dink contraptions for you to put your feet in, basically a large, scratched-up, plastic bowl set into a faux stone garden pot! And they wanted $30 for that???? When I called to complain and ask about how they sanitize their equiptment the girl I talked to had no idea what I was talking about!! I'm so mad at their negligence and I want to warn people about this place so I'm glad you asked!
Yes, I also got a horrible fungal infection from my pedicure at Phoenix Salon and Day Spa. The owner completely blew it off. There is no excuse for this! won't go back

Re: Blond highlights that look natural
About the blond highlights in the Berkeley/Oakland area. There is a SUPERB stylist at Phoenix Rising Hair Salon in Montclair who does very beautiful, natural-looking highlights. She goes by the name ''Z.'' I'm a new client and am extremely pleased. The price isn't outrageous either. According to Z, big, bold, blond highlights are ''way out of style'' anyway. She compares it to pasta! The fettuccine highlights are over. It's time for spaghettini! Anon
Re: Hair color and style in Alameda or Oakland (Aug 2005)
I have a fantastic stylist/colorist in Montclair. Her name is Zee Kennedy and she works at Phoenix Rising salon on Moraga beside the Albertson's parking entrance. For many years she owned her own salon, but has moved to the Montclair area and is building a client base here. She has a great eye for a cut to suit a face and lifestyle and her color effects are very flattering and natural looking. She also has a fantastic personality. Very funny, smart and just a great person to spend an hour with! jodie
Re: Stylist for thick, curly hair (June 2005)
My neighbor Susan is a great hair stylist and just started working in a new shop in Montclair. She used to commute up to a shop in the North Bay but now works at Phoenix Rising on at 6400 Moraga Avenue right near Albertson\\222s. They also have spa services at the shop including nails, waxing, body wraps and massage, although I have never tried any of these services. Anyhow, if you want to make an appointment call 510-338-1106 and tell Susan that her neighbor Marcy sent you :) marcy
