  • Basketball summer camp for a 9-year-old

    I’m looking for a basketball summer camp for a 9-year old (almost 10) who is a basketball beginner.  Looking to nourish a budding love of the sport.  Can anyone recommend a good summer camp in the Richmond, El Cerrito, Berkeley area (even as far out as Oakland), OR possibly a chill league experience?

    I've been taking my 10 year old beginner to a basketball class through Triple Threat Academy and they do a good job teaching skills while keeping it fun for beginners. They have summer camps available - it is in the Oakland Hills so it's a bit of a trek. We haven't tried it but Cal also has a basketball summer camp week for all levels in Berkeley as well

  • Reviews of Future Star Baseball camp

    Hello:

    My 4th grade son wants to do a baseball camp this summer, and the one recommended to us  does not have sessions in August. I'm wondering how Future Star Baseball Camp is for a kid who already has a lot of baseball skills and is very motivated to practice. Also wondering how the coaches are and if the camp helps kids with sportsmanship in addition to baseball skills. We are looking for coaches who are fun, kind and non-shaming, while still expecting hard work and practice.

    We are doing Future Stars camp for the first time this summer, but our son has done classes with Ben Mangan in the past and enjoyed them. Friends who've done the camp describe it as similar to but a little more rigorous than East Bay BALL camp, in case that was the other you were considering. Many kids do both camps and find them complementary; in my experience with sports camps generally, the particular mix of kids in a given week will determine a lot. If you decide to do Future Stars you might also send Coach Ben an email asking which would be the better session (skills vs. games) for your son's goals.

Summer Baseball Camp for 6- year old

I'm looking for a baseball camp this summer for my 6-year old who is now in T-Ball. The ones I am considering are the Alameda Diamond Skills and Future Star Baseball. If you have any experience with either or can recommend something else, let me know. Thanks anon

Check out East Bay Ball Camp (http://www.summerballcamp.com). It is run by a Oakland couple with 3 sons all of whom were avid baseball players. Two of my boys worked there while in high school (they were also long-time baseball players with North Oakland/South Oakland Little League). It is well run with skills work in the morning and games in the afternoon. Players are divided up by age group. Really a great camp! Baseball mom

Baseball Camp for 7 year old

My 7 year old would like to do a baseball camp over the summer. I see that there is a Nike Baseball camp at Cal, but have not seen any reviews. Has anyone had any experience there? Are there any other Baseball camps available in the Berkeley area? I am looking something for a full day option. This will only be his second summer at camps. Thank you! New Baseball Mom

My boys have done BALL Camp (www.summerballcamp.com) the last 5 years or so and loved it - they do a mix of baseball drills, baseball games, and other outdoor games. They are at Caldecott field near the tunnel, so pretty easy to access from Berkeley. Camp runs from 9-4, with some aftercare available. Baseball Mom

For a good baseball camp, especially for your son's age, check out BALL Summer Camp . It is run by an Oakland couple with three sons, all of whom play baseball. My high school sons have been CITS/counselors there. Kids seem to love it, it is well run, and reasonably priced. My son did BALL Summer Camp for baseball last summer at age 6 and is already begging to go back for more this summer. It's run by a long-time North Oakland-South Oakland Little League family (playing and coaching) and they have a really great and enthusiastic staff of counselors who not only know baseball but really connect with the kids.
