East Bay German International School: High School Applications (EBIHS) Now Accepted for 25-26
The East Bay International High School (EBIHS) is a multilingual, college-preparatory high school operated by the East Bay German International School (EBGIS). EBIHS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the highly regarded IB Diploma Programme (DP). EBIHS is one of only three high schools in the San Francisco Bay Area awarding the Bilingual IB Diploma to students who complete college-level language and literature studies in both English and a second language.
EBIHS offers unparalleled academic and enrichment programs, and a diverse international faculty, student body, and community. EBIHS is small by design, providing highly individualized instruction and support to every student.
EBIHS is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). EBIHS is also authorized by the German Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) to administer the Deutsche Sprachdiplom (DSD) levels I and II.
Academic Program
EBIHS combines rigorous multilingual instruction with creative project-based learning. EBIHS offers exceptional academics, a diverse international perspective, and a vibrant intellectual community.
High-Level Multilingual Language and Literature Studies
No knowledge of German is required for admission to the East Bay International High School. EBIHS offers multiple language tracks with beginner to native speaker level language and literature courses in German, French, and Spanish as well as introductory Mandarin. The language of instruction for other courses is English.
Bilingual International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program
All EBIHS students in grades 11 and 12 undertake the full IB Diploma Programme (DP). Students may elect to pursue the Bilingual IB Diploma, a distinction awarded to just a quarter of IB candidates worldwide. This distinction is awarded to just a quarter of IB graduates worldwide and it further distinguishes EBIHS students from other applicants to top universities.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses and Exams in Early High School
EBIHS students in grades nine and ten have access to a range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Those who enter EBIHS from EBGIS have already completed seven credits of science courses, preparing them for advanced science in early high school.
EBIHS students have in addition taken and excelled in AP examinations in Biology, German Language and Culture, Spanish Language and Culture, Japanese Language and Culture, and Physics. Our students’ overall average AP score to date is 4.8 (out of 5).
AAPPL Assessments and Seal of Biliteracy
We are authorized by Language Testing International (LTI) to administer the globally used and recognized Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) in all our target languages. AAPPL testing ensures accurate placement of students in appropriate level language courses while in high school, and it culminates in the Seal of Biliteracy award appearing on our students’ diplomas and transcripts. The Seal of Biliteracy demonstrates that the student can effectively use foreign languages in real world situations, giving our graduates an additional advantage in university admissions.
Highly Individualized Instruction and Mentoring
With exceptionally small classes and a low student/teacher ratio, EBIHS provides unparalleled individualized support to each student. Faculty members come to know students extremely well and are committed to helping students overcome challenges while inspiring them to pursue their strengths and interests to reach their full potential. One-on-one faculty mentoring and highly differentiated instruction provide a uniquely personalized learning experience.
