I have curly hair and a wonderful stylist. His name is Scott Torok and he works at Marsha's for Hair on Locust Street in Walnut Creek and he owns Descend Salon on Union Street in SF. He charges $80 for a cut but he is incredibly talented. He will dry cut your hair first and then shampoo and cut again. This method is very effective for curly hair.
