Looking for support for your child starting college? Starting college is an exciting and happy time. However, this comes with challenges for taking complete responsibility, an increase in the academic workload, and changing social roles with instructors and peers. Shawn Usha can provide problem-solving support and guidance to maintain an overall positive and successful start.

Shawn Usha provides virtual, individual support for students starting college, particularly for students with a neurodiversity that impacts the learning process. Shawn has extensive experience with students having dyslexia, ADHD, on the spectrum, executive function challenges, and anxiety/depression.

Services can cover a wide range of areas: understanding and using accommodations effectively, interactions with disabled student services, seeking out supportive services and non-academic experiences at the college, staying healthy and resilient, improving core skills in reading comprehension and writing, memory strategies that lead to less stressful test taking, time management and work organization, and communications with instructors and other students. Shawn’s area of expertise is developing study strategies based on the individual’s learning strengths and tailored to the specific course and instructional requirements.

An initial ½ hour consultation is offered at no cost to explore needs and compatibility. A recommended package is a minimum of four sessions – the first session before classes begin for the best setup and start; two sessions during the first two weeks of classes to understand course requirements, use accommodations, and customize study strategies; and a final session before midterms for test-taking strategies and evaluate course progress.

Shawn Usha, Educational Therapist/Professional, has worked as a Learning Disability Specialist in private and public colleges providing evaluations, setting up accommodations, coaching for study skills, and individual problem-solving for hundreds of students. Shawn maintains a virtual private practice coaching and academic skill building for middle school to college students.
